GIVING TO GHANA FOUNDATION, INC. is a non-profit organization
established to help the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani, Ghana, West
Africa, effectively serve the less fortunate and underprivileged
people she ministers to in rural Ghana. The goal of the Foundation
is to make a difference in the lives of the people through the
provision of social and economic amenities
The Republic of Ghana is divided into
ten administrative Regions. One of these regions is Brong Ahafo. The
Catholic Diocese of Sunyani serves the people in this Region. The
Diocese covers an area of about 28, 400 km. Most of it is situated
in poor rural areas where a majority of the people engage in
subsistence farming. The Region has lagged behind the rest of the
Country in terms of education, healthcare delivery system, provision
of potable drinking water, and recreational facilities. The poor
water supply in this area has tremendous negative consequences on
the people ministered to. Many have died of water-borne diseases
such as malaria, typhoid, dysentry, and intenstinal parasitic worms.
The Foundation believes in total development of the human person;
thus provision of social and economic infrastructures form an
integral part of its missionary activities for our Catholic Brothers
and Sisters and all needy people there. The Foundation works in
close partnership with the Diocese to help improve the quality of
life in rural Ghana. Long-term goals include:
** Establishment of schools at the elementary and high school level
to provide quality education to the young people in the Region.
** Construction of training centers to train the youth in modern
agricultural techniques, and to provide leadership training for the
young people.
** Establishment of vocational school whose aim is to provide
training to young men and women to prepare them employment
opportunities.
** Provision of small grants to single parents who wish to form
small cooperatives. This will help to better their living
conditions.
** Organizing workshops on prevention of diseases notably HIV/AIDS,
and other sexually transmitted diseases, while emphasizing respect
for life, the consequences of abortion, and family life,
The Foundation’s immediate goal for the year 2007 is:
** Establishment of a Medical Clinic in one of our rural
communities.
** To improve the perennial water problem by drilling five boreholes
(wells) in the most affected communities.
Our set-goals for 2007 are not small, but the Foundation is
confident that, with your help, coupled with strategic planning,
clear vision and direction, the Foundation will be enable to achieve
its goals. The Foundation is very appreciative for whatever
contribution is given. Your support is very essential in helping the
Foundation bring these goals to fruition; and your donation will
surely make a difference.
The Republic of Ghana is located in
West Africa. It borders La Cote d’voire to the west, Burkina Faso to
the north, Togo to the east, and Atlantic Ocean to the south. Accra,
the national capital is also the largest city. The country’s
population in 2005 was about 21 million.
The Giving to Ghana Foundation, Inc, (The “Foundation”) was
established in December 2006 as a non-profit charitable entity to
work in partnership with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sunyani,
Ghana, better serve the people in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana.
The Foundation’s efforts and projects are community-based, serving
all members in the community, regardless of their religious
affiliation. Every member in the community is a beneficiary of the
various projects sponsored by the foundation. Foundation has already
sponsored a “borehole” (well) in the village of Badu in the Brong
Ahafo Region which serves everyone in the community.
The foundation’s two principal goals are: (1) to create awareness of
the needs of the rural communities in the Brong Ahafo; (2) to raise
funds to support the developmental projects undertaken by Foundation
in partnership with the Catholic Diocese of Sunyani.
Besides these activities, the Foundation is about bringing people of
Ghana and those of the United States together so that together they
can share support, their spiritual and material blessings with one
another; such a collaborative move is likely to enhance the
spiritual and physical well-being of the people on both countries.
Some of the representatives of Giving to Ghana visited the Catholic
Diocese of Sunyani, Ghana, last month to gather the first hand
information. The visit was said to be a memorable one, and the
people of the Region will for ever have an undying appreciation for
the foundation, and to all those who support its activities.
